Day 6 and back to work

Amanda Anderson • 6 Jan 2011

My dear husband informed me today that I have a lot of work to get through so I should get a full day of work in before he gets home. Thanks dear. My plan for today is to work on my business plan for this year. I've got a lot of things I would like to achieve, one of them being the goal to churn out 30 websites during the year, so I need to put a plan in place on how to achieve this.

Another goal is to get better at managing my time, and to not spend so much of it on unimportant things. The most productive days I have is when I write down what I do for eight hours, mostly because I hate to write down that I spent 30 minutes playing a game, or that I took a nap even though I could hardly keep my eyes open. So along with this blog, I will be keeping a record of my time and I'll see how much work I can get done in a day. Hopefully it will clear the backlog of its and pieces I have to catch up on, and also get things ready for when I actually open the office back up on the 11th.

I'm using a good program called WorkflowMax, which is an online job/time management tool. I can set up job templates so that for each new website I have a list of things that I need to do, how long it should take to complete, and then as I'm working on it I can log my hours. I also use another online programme called Xero to manage my accounts. It also allows me to generate invoices and statements. I plan on making full use of both these programmes this year. I put them in place last year but haven't been using them as much as I should.

So my business goals for January:

  1. Make better use of WorkflowMax and Xero
  2. Schedule time with work to be completed and record what I do each day
  3. Put a business plan in place to create 30 websites this year
  4. Complete and put live at least 2 websites in January

Wish me luck :)

  • Great plan! I have a bad habit of wasting time as well. I should try your exercise of writing down what I'm doing during the day. It sounds very motivational! Best wishes to you!

  • Good luck Amanda :) My biggest problem is I always think I can get much more done in the time available, than I can do. It's frustrating, but on the upside, there are many days when I look back on the day and am pleasantly surprised at how much I have done. And I try to not look at how much there is still to do...LOL
