I always find it surprising how simple it is to put your body clock out of sync. One single night where you can't sleep, and catch up in the afternoon of the next day is all it takes.
Weekends are the start of it all. Generally you don't need to go anywhere, so we end up sleeping in. Instead of getting up at 7.30 or 8 like we usually do, we sleep until 9.30 on Saturday morning. And because we've had the extra sleep, we generally end up staying awake until 1.
The problem with staying up until 1 or later, is that you sleep in until 10.00 on Sunday. Which means that it's even later that night that you go to sleep. Monday goes pretty much the same way. Tuesday on the other hand is a different story.
I have to be up at 6am in time to travel 30 minutes into town for a 7am meeting. So I haven't got to sleep until 3am, which equates to 3 hours sleep. I can usually make it through until about lunchtime before I need to take a nap.
You tell yourself it's only going to be a short nap, just an hour. Yeah right - 3 hours later I have wasted the rest of the day and I've caught up on sleep for the night. Except that I didn't go to bed until 2.30 last night, and didn't go to sleep until after 3am. And didn't get up until 11am this morning, so my body clock has got way out of wack after only half a week.
My fix is to get up at 8 tomorrow morning, no matter what time I end up going to bed. And no naps during the day. The main part of the fix is to continue with this routine so that my body clock doesn't get out of sync again. I'll let you know how it goes.
